Which Web Browser is best?

Which browser is the best to use surfing the Internet?
That is a question that many people are debating and never can agree on. I am not going to tell you which is best, but I will share some statistics and test reports with you and share my own experiences about web browser in 2016.

A little Browser history

netscape_navigator_9_web_browserWhen I first started getting online and experienced the Internet for the first time, Netscape was without doubt the number one browser in the online game. Microsoft was starting pushing their Internet Explorer browser, making it built-in to Windows 95 OSR (OEM Service Release). It gave Microsoft a big advantage because everyone buying a new Windows computer already had the Internet Explore installed out of the box. If you wanted Netscape, you had to download it yourself and figure out how to set it as default browser instead of IE. At that point IE was at version 4, but Netscape was a lot better and faster browser with great support for JavaScript. Unfortunately, Microsoft won the battle in the so called “Browser War” and in February, 2005 Internet Explorer 6 had a marked share of 82.79%. Since then a lot has happened and Microsoft had been pushed away from the top spot of browser domination even in the desktop marked. As a result of that Microsoft has stopped the Internet Explorer project and started all over with the introduction of Microsoft Edge browser in Windows 10.

Browser trends

I have been doing a little research to check out what the trends are in the browser marked lately. The numbers are based on Desktop web browsers:

As the above stats shows. Microsoft has lost its first place in the desktop browser marked. Google Chrome is now by far the most popular and used browser on desktop computers. Also, Firefox has been catching up in IE. While Microsoft Internet Explorer has dropped from 43.82% to 25.48% their new browser Microsoft Edge has only gone from 3.07% in January to 5.16% in September. That must be a big concern for Microsoft.

Which browser is the fastest?

Well to answer that I will like to share test results from ghacks.net They have tested and compared some the most used browser to try and answer that question. Of cause there is lot more than speed that decides what browser is best, but of cause speed is one of the main keys to choose the best browser. As you can see below in the 3 tests, Microsoft Edge is actually faster than Google Chrome in 2 out of 3 test. I think many people are not paying much attention to the new Microsoft Edge browser, because Internet Explorer has been so bad for the last couple of years forcing users to switch to Google Chrome or Firefox.

I use only Firefox since a long time. I try to switch to Chrome but I think I am addicted to Firefox. But I have installed Chrome also and use it some time. I use Chrome only when Firefox can’t provide my required extension to complete the task. Well, Chrome is clearly dominating the browser war. Edge browser, I try sometime but back to Firefox 🙂
