My Google Analytics Traffic Report for Q2 2012

Google Analytics

Another quarter has pasted and it is time for another Google Analytics Report of mine. In case you missed my last report you can find it herePenguin AttackFor the first time since I started this blog I have really seen some serious drop in traffic. The trouble started back in April when I as many other bloggers around the world was hit by the Google Penguin update. I am not sure why Google fell like punishing my blog, but they sure did. However my PageRank at Google are still PR3 for this Blog.

My Google Analytics Traffic for Q2 2012

Traffic Types

For the second quarter of 2012 my traffic was like this:

  • Search Engines 75.64%
  • Direct Traffic 11.41%
  • Referring Sites: 11.30%
  • Blog Glue Plugin: 1.30%
  • Twitter: 0.33%

Search Engines:Google Analytics

  • Google: 93.61%
  • Yahoo: 3.93%
  • Bing: 0.83%

When it comes to Search Engines, Google are still in a league of its own. The Bing Team at Microsoft must really be kicking them self. They are not even close to be a contender for Google in the Search Engines game.

Top 5 Referring Sites:

  1. t.co (Twitter)
  2. triberr.com
  3. stumbleupon.com
  4. geeks4share.com
  5. google.com

When it comes to Referring Sites Twitter are new on the top spot compared to 1 quarter of 2012. Triberr.com is improving from number 5 to number 2. All in all I have been a lot better using the power of Twitter to drive traffic to my Blog. I have of cause also got more followers the last 3 month and that helps as well. Google.com is new in my Top 5 for Referring Sites.

Top 10 visitors by Country:

1. United StatesGoogle Analytics Map Overlay
2. Denmark
3. United Kingdom
4. India
5. Australia
6. Canada
7. Netherlands
8. Germany
9. Philippines
10. Sweden

My Top 10 visitors are still pretty much the same. The only change is that Sweden are new on the list instead of Finland.

Conclusion on Traffic Report

Well besides the fact that The Big Bad Google Penguin update gave me a big drop in traffic in April things are pretty much the same. I am still not at the level I was before the Penguin update, but I am getting there slowly. How about you? How has your traffic been for the last couple of months? Where you also affected by Google Penguin Update? Please drop me a comment below.

I’m sure the traffic drop you saw because of the Penguin update will only be temporary.

I like the fact that, while search engines account for most of your traffic, both your direct and referral numbers are over 10%. Having those two numbers increase for my blog is something I struggle with each month.

    1. Hi Paul
I am pretty happy with the way my traffic are shared between Organic, direct and referral. Now I just want more traffic 🙂
It looks like I am slowly getting back to the level I had in early April, when my traffic was at the highest point. Thank you for the comment Paul.

      1. I think your traffic is pretty healthy based on the stats. Great to hear that your traffic is picking up too!

By the way, I like how you are displaying your Top Commentators. In fact, I have just installed one on my blog too. Please come and have a look.

        1. Thank you Jasmine
Top Commentators is a great plugin making people want to leave a comment when they visit your blog. I am on my way to your blog to have a look 🙂

  2. Hi Thomas, April was my best month ever, then my blog broke and my traffic plummeted in May. If you want to drive traffic away, just install Captcha on your blog comments.

In June my numbers came back up, though not quite to April level. Last week and this week my numbers are way down. Summertime traffic perhaps?

I am certain that your numbers will return as you have a very high quality blog.

Thanks for sharing your figures with us, Thomas!

    1. Hi Carolyn
If April was your best month ever I guess that your blog was not affected by Google Penguin update?
I hope and believe that my numbers will be back to my normal level soon.
      Come back soon Carolyn 🙂

  3. It’s amazing to see Triberr so high up there but I just came here from there so I guess there is something to it. Stumble Upon used to my biggest source but it came with a high bounce rate.

    1. Hi Lisa
Triberr is a great tool to drive traffic to a blog and also to connect with other bloggers like you. Stumble Upon can also give you a lot of traffic, but as you mentioned it comes with a high bounce rate.

  4. It’s pretty crazy that over 90% of your search engine traffic comes from google. Do you monitor whether you rank well in bing and yahoo? Just wondering if it’s a rankings thing or simply that noone is using bing and yahoo.

    1. It is not 90% of my total traffic, but more then 90% of my search engine traffic that are from Google I guess that not many people are using Bing and Yahoo.

  5. Wow Thomas, seems like you are getting a good amount of traffic from twitter also. I have a 3 year old blog but I don’t get even 1 visitor from twitter.

    1. Hi Rajnish
It took me a while before I was able to get any serious traffic from Twitter. You need a good number of followers before you will succeed driving traffic from Twitter to your blog.

  6. Slappy Bear

I’ve noticed myself that twitter seems to be top referring site on my bloggy as well, it only goes to show that promoting on Twitter does pay off 😉

    1. Hi Slappy
Twitter is great for blog promoting, but it took me a while before it began to work (needed more followers). Combined with Triberr and the “Tweet old Post” plugin I have really been able to generate some nice traffic from Twitter.

    Hi Thomas…
Month of April and May…..was a nightmare for all the bloggers around the world….

Google started punishing lots of blog and website…and in this process they have hit some innocent blogs and website as well.

I hope in this quarter you will see a high peak in your traffic stats…..

    1. Hi
So far this month has almost been back at the level of the beginning of April. I have heard about bloggers that was not punished by the Google Update this time, but most bloggers has been. I guess this will happen for all bloggers at some time. We just have to keep on working and the traffic will come back eventually.

  8. Good job! Analytics seem very nice for you! Keep up the good work and you will be rewarded for the effort you put!

  9. Prakash

Your traffic is looking very nice as it comes from search engines, and they are loyal visitors.

    1. Thank you. I am pretty happy with my share of traffic coming from search engines. However to much traffic coming from search engines can also be a problem if Google decides to change the rules on SEO over night as we saw it with the Penguin Update in April.

      1. Prakash

Yes Thomas it may be a problem having traffics from search engines as google is very strict and always come with a new update.

        1. Hi Prakash
I guess that is part of the game being online. If Google was not making these changes the Search Result we get would pretty fast be full of spam. I like Google making updates, I just don’t like when their updates hits my blog 😉

  10. The statistics are pretty good.

  11. ayesha

This all show how much your are ambitious to your goal. Good work you have done.. Best of luck for furure!!

  12. Gautham Nekkanti

Great Progress Thomas, Your organic traffic proportion is great, i hope your Bounce rate is doing well too.

    1. I guess that my bounce rate could be better. That is something for me to work on in the future.

  13. umbrella company

I have an ecommerce store and I started a Google analytic account. When I log into the back end of my online store, the Google analytic overlay bar shows up and and I can’t get rid of it. How do you get rid of it?

  14. Alex

Wow, it’s incredible how much traffic you have from search engines! Unfortunately this means you should find a way to win your readers’ loyalty.

  15. Thanks for the stats share, Thomas. I love statistics, and it’s really helpful to see yours. Mine are about the same percentages but you have twice the volume (and well deserved!). Triberr, hmmm? Have to give that a try. SU was big for me for a few days.

    1. Thank you.
I think you should give Triberr a try. It has been working out great for me. If you don’t have that many followers on Twitter yourself, it is a great way to reach a lot of people.

  16. Hi thomos
thanks for sharing your preety good traffics statics..it is great achievement since more traffic is coming from google.

  17. Wow!! 93% from Google. Goes to show, if you aren’t ranking there you might as well not exist.

Thomas your numbers are right where I want to be. Thanks for the motivation.

    1. Hi Joe
It is 93% of my organic traffic that is from Google not 93% of all my traffic. Search Engines traffic is 75.64 of my total traffic, but that is still pretty good I think, but there is always room for improvements.

  18. You have a Great Traffic stats.. very Nice..

  19. Ali

    Hi Thomas,
Your stats are pretty godd and “ideal”. you get most of your traffic from the search engines and most of the organic traffic is from google. Pretty well. Keep the good work and thanks for sharing 🙂

  20. Shadab

    Hi Thomas,
It seems to be good traffic with the highest impact of search engines, mostly from the king Google. Have your site recovered from penguin?

    1. Hi Shadab
No, I have not been able to recover from the Penguin update yet. It seems to be very difficult to get back at that level of traffic from Google again.

  21. Shailesh

94% traffic via google that’s amazing because google regularly growing his search results.
Keep ot up because u r playing well in content writing.
    Gud luck

  22. Hi, I’m sorry to hear that your blog was one of those that are affected by the Penguin update mid-year. I hope you’ve recovered by now. I quickly checked your Alexa ratings and it seems quite healthy to me (yay!). As for me, my blog didn’t quite felt any impact from the Penguin update perhaps because it’s too small hehe. But seriously hang in there! 🙂

    1. Hi Karl
Thank you for your encouragement. I will keep on posting tech post in the future.

  23. Lee

Hi Thomas very interesting looking at your analytics. My search engine traffic is upside down to yours. My blog is still in its infancy and at the moment I am starting to rank well in bing and yahoo. But in google things are going much slower so hopefully when google gets going the traffic influx will increase dramatically.

    Great insight thanks lee

    1. Hi Lee
It does for sure sound upside down. Google is by far the most used Search Engine worldwide, but maybe you are just ranking very well to on Bing and Yahoo. Do you use Google Webmaster Tools? It has been a big help to me, to optimize my blog for Search Engines.
