What can we expect of Windows Server 2019

Windows Server 2019 is the next upcoming server operating from Microsoft. In this post I will give a little overview of the news in the upcoming version.

What is new in Windows Server 2019

Windows Server 2019 is the next server operating system from Microsoft. It should already has been available, but because of issues with the next version of Windows 10 it has been delayed. I am, however able to give a small sneak preview of what we can expect for the release. If you would like to try it out yourself there is a download link for the Insider Preview in the bottom of this post. Some of the new interesting features is Admin Center, Cluster Sets (Make your clusters work together in one big Clusters), Improvements for working with Containers, System Insights and Shielded virtual machines. Windows Server 2019 is built on the success of Windows Server 2016 and if you have been working with Windows Server 2016, it will look very familiar to what you have been used to. The Start Menu and the overall look and feel is the same as in Windows Server 2016/Windows 10.

Windows Admin Center

Earlier in 2018 Microsoft released a tool called Windows Admin Center that is a browser-based tool to manage Windows server 2016 and Windows Server 2019. It is a single tool that combines all the tools we used to use to manage daily server tasks. Check out the video below for a walkthrough:

Release date of Windows Server 2019

Windows Server 2019 was expected to be released in Q3-Q4, 2018. It was actually released in the middle of October, but was removed from the marked again due to the issues with the 1809 update for Windows 10. Microsoft was afraid that because Windows 10 and Windows server 2019 share code base there could also be some issues that affects Windows server 2019

Pictures of Windows Server 2019

As you can see below the user interface of Windows Server 2019 looks a lot like Windows Server 2016.
