How to rip your DVDs with SoThink DVD Ripper

SoThink DVD Ripper

I recently was asked if would like to write a review of SoThink DVD Ripper from Sothinkmedia. After trying out the program I agreed to write a review so here we go.

Review of the SoThink DVD Ripper

If you have a lot of DVD’s laying around and you would like to rip them to your PC you might want to check out the SoThink DVD Ripper application. It is an easy to use DVD ripper that supports a lot of different output formats including: avi, mp4, mkv, divX, xvid, wmv and many more. Actually more than 200 different formats are supported. With this program you can rip all your favorite moves to your computer or Media Center and put away your original DVD covers. You can also rip your DVDs to formats supported by your smartphone, PS3 or iPad.

3 simple steps to rip a DVD with SoThink DVD Ripper

The program is very easy to use if you want to get on with ripping your DVD collection in a hurry. It only takes 3 steps to get started.
1. Put in the original DVD in the DVD drive and click on Open DVD

2.  Select the output format you want of your DVD Rip

How to Convert DVD to iPad

If you want to watch your DVD movies on your iPad, SoThink have made this little video to help you do just that.

Conclusion

One of the cool things about this program is that you can select to get subtitles included inside the final video. I am not talking about an extra file including the subtitle language that you want. It is all included inside the .avi, mkv or whatever output format you have chosen to rip your DVD to. Another nice feature is that it lets you cut out different parts of a movie that you would like to exclude on your final rip. If you like you can also add a watermark to your output movie.

SoThink DVD ripper is available for Windows Vista / Windows 7 for $34.95 but is also available in a 30 days trial period if you wish to try it out first.

Hi Thomas, Wow, that’s impressive. I used to rip DVD’s but gave up because the process was a nightmare. It took forever and sometimes the sound would cut out half way through the movie or not download at all. Of course, that was many years ago.

This software sounds much easier to use and much more sophisticated with the subtitles being transferred as well.

I look forward to finding out how people can qualify for your big contest! 🙂

    1. Hi Carolyn

It has for sure been a lot easier the last couple of years. I remember back in the old day’s where you had to use command line tools and multiple processes to get a DVD ripped. This software is for sure easy to use.

I expect to start a little giveaway maybe this weekend so you better be looking out for it 🙂

      1. You’re right, it was a complex, multiple step process, which is why it was just easier to get the movies from Netflix, iTunes, etc. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to be able to rip DVD’s in a fast, easy way.

        I’ll be watching.

I like the way that we can do editing like placing subtitles and deleting scenes we don’t like. It doesn’t sound hard to use as well. Finally, I can transfer all my movies in my computer.

    1. Hi Kimberly
It does for sure have some nice features I think. Come back soon and you will have a chance to win a license when I am having a little giveaway here on my blog very soon 🙂

I am sure its a nice product. But the problem is that I think all DVD rip softwares are one and the same. I use NERO and face no problem with it. Although I must say the subtitle feature is a nice addition..

  17. Tablice magnetyczne

Good review. But now i just burn the copies and don’t rip anything.

  18. Its really simple and easy to use software a perfect user friendly package

  19. You used to need to run something like DVDecryption to break the encryption.
Is there a need for that anymore?

    1. That is a real good question Jason. I have not had any issues about encrypted DVD using SoThink DVD Ripper. I guess they have been able to deal with it somehow inside the software.

  20. tampa seo company

This is a very useful software with some extra features like subtitle but what is the difference between So Think DVD Ripper and all other DVD rippers.
