On April 11th, 2017 Microsoft will release a new major update for Windows 10, called Creators Update. In this post, I will give you the key feature of this new update.

What is Creators Update?

The Windows Create Update is the 3th big update for Windows 10 since the first release of Windows 10 (1507) back in 2015. In July 2015. In November 2015, Microsoft released their first big update for Windows 10 called Threshold 1 (1511). In July 2016 Microsoft released their 2nd big update to celebrate the first year with Windows 10. Soon it is time for the 3th big update for Windows 10 named Creator update (1703) that will be released to the public on April 11th, 2017.

What is new in Creators Update?

Windows 10 Creators Update, comes with a bunch of new features. I have been looking into the most important new features.

Paint 3D

Microsoft want to be first mover when it comes to 3D and properly one of the reasons why this update is named Creators Update. The new update will include Paint 3D, a small and simple to use program where you can create your own 3D object. You can draw freehand or you can select from a number of predefined figures and explore the possibilities of 3D drawings.

Improved Edge Browser

The Edge web browser build in to Windows 10 has once again been improved. It is for sure a lot better browser than Internet Explorer, but still have some compatibility issues. Let hope that with the new improvements make Edge good enough to push out Internet Explorer for good and also try to take up the fight with the leading web browsers on the marked. One of the new feature of Edge you would properly like is the ability to park unused tabs for you to come back to later. This action will stop them from running in the background, but you can fast and easily bring them back when you need them.

Game Mode

If you are playing games on your computer you will properly be very pleased with this new feature. The idea of this feature is to bring all the power to the game you are playing and put all background tasks in Windows 10 on low priority. This feature will probably be very helpful on mid-spec PCs and laptops that are not build for gaming.

Go to Settings > Gaming > Game Mode to find Game Mode settings

Download Themes from the Store

Another new feature is that you now can download Themes for your Windows 10 computer from the Windows Store. There is lots of great themes you can download for your computer. So if you want to personalize your Windows desktop there is plenty inspiration to get. Go ahead at grab the theme you like, to pimp your desktop and start menu. There are by the way free for you to download and use 🙂

Night Light Settings

Night mode is another new feature that will help you automatically to switch the color on your screen when you are working at late hours. The thing is that the default blue color in Windows 10 is not good for your eyes late at night before you are going to sleep. That is why Microsoft has introduced this setting where Windows 10 will automatically change the color to something that is better for your eyes.

Go to Settings > System > Display to find Night Light Settings

Improved Windows Defender

Another thing you will notice with the new update is that Windows defender has had a big facelift and is now called Windows Defender Security Center. The new version includes, Virus & Threat protection, Device performance & health, Firewall & network protection, App & browser control and Family options.

Storage Sense

Another cool feature in Creators Update is called Storage Sense. It is a feature that will automatically clean up temporary files that are not automatically cleaned up when your install or use programs on your computer. You can also make it clean up files in your Recycle Bin that is older the 30 days if you would like that.

Go to Settings > System > Storage and turn on Storage sense. Don’t worry, this feature is disabled by default.

When will I get Creators Update?

Just like with the other major update for Windows 10, the Creator update will be delivered with Windows Update. Even the public release date is set for April 11th, you will properly not get the update that same day. Microsoft will push out the update in stages to make sure that everything is going according to their plan. An OS update is always a big, complex update and even Microsoft has a large Windows Insider Preview program, they can never test everything. If you can’t wait for the update to arrive Microsoft will publish link for direct download when the update is ready for the public. The link should be available from April 5.

Are you ready for Windows 10 Creators Update?

While these are great details, I would like to add one important details. Many users have reported that this update dramatically increases the magnitude of spying on users.

While it may or may not be true, it is recommended that users should make the following changes in their privacy settings: Open the Privacy tab in Windows 10 Settings, choose Feedback & Diagnostics, and adjust the Diagnostic & Usage Data setting to Basic.

      Hi Darren
That is correct that the new Windows 10 has some extra features sending data back to Microsoft. However, the use will be presented for those before first login after upgrading to Creators Update. I did, turn of most off them myself too.
