My Google Analytics Stats Report for Q1 2013

Another 3 months has gone and it is time for another traffic report here on my blog. For each quarter of the year I share some of my traffic stats that I think might interest you, my readers of this blog. Below you can see my stats for the first 3 months of the year of 2013.  If you missed my last post from Q4 2012 you can see it here.

My Google Analytics Stats for Q1 2013Google Analytics

Traffic Types:

  • Search Engines: 68.16%
  • Direct Traffic: 22.18%
  • Referring Sites: 9.61%
  • Other: 0.05%

For Q1 of 2013 my Direct Traffic is higher than my Referring Sites. That is the opposite of what it used to be, but my Search Engine traffic is steady around 68-70 percent. My Bounce Rate is by the way about 81%. That is something that I might want to improve in the future. It would be nice if my visitors would stay a little bit longer to see what else I have to offer 🙂

Search Engines:

  1. Google: 94.68%
  2. Bing: 2.01%
  3. Yahoo: 1.68%

When I look at traffic from Search Engines only, Google is still the king of Search Engines, but for the first time I get more traffic from Bing that I do from Yahoo.

Stumbleupon is my new number 1 referring site, but Twitter is also doing well bringing me traffic. The two forums and is also bringing me a nice amount of traffic.

Not much have changed since Q4 of 2012. My blog is still a PR3 and my overall traffic is about the same as in Q4 of 2012. My most visit blog post in Q1 of 2013 is by far:

How to invite your Friends to Like your Facebook Page?

That was all from me for this time. I would love if you would drop me a comment below. I would also like to know how your blog has been doing in the beginning of 2013. Any new trends you have noticed when it comes to web-traffic?

  3. Rashmi Sinha says:

Must have devoted your impulse time in this research. Nice post anyway. Google is the undisputed winner of search engine. I get most of my result from here only.

On the bounce rate, I wonder if inner linking inside of your blog posts to related other blog posts would help. Sounds like a lot of work but like with this post, maybe post to your old report in a more obvious fashion than the “here” comment you had. For example, build a table and have each piece of the table from the last report linked to the last report.

    • Thomas says:

      Hi Chuck
I already have a plugin automatically creating links to related posts on my blog in the bottom of each post. I think that people that are finding my post via Google are searching for a specific topic and then just leave when they have read the post they was landing on. Maybe that is just the way it is with a tech-blog.

  6. Carolyn says:

Congratulations on your continued success, Thomas! Interesting stats. Bing overtook Yahoo on my site too. Maybe someday they’ll beat Google? Who knows?

  7. Stumbleupon is also at the top of my stats, it certainly seems to be a great site to get the traffic oming in with Twitter second and Facebook third.

Google is still my number one for traffic from search engines.

    • Thomas says:

      Hi Karen
I am still struggling getting traffic from Facebook. Facebook is only number 11 on my list for Referring Sites, but I have not been active there very long, so I guess there should be potential for improvements there in the future 🙂

  8. I post my article to my Facebook page, then share them to some of the blogging groups that I belong to, this in turn not only helps with the “Likes” for an article, but also brings in the traffic. Also don\’t forget to post your article on your Facebook profile as “Public”, you\’d be surprised the difference it makes 😉

  9. Hey Thomas,
First of all, I would like to thank you for sharing your traffic report to us. Not everyone has the guts to share and compare the quarterly report to everyone. Goes to show how confident and honest person you are. In the other hand, your report is very informative and it easy to understand. I wish you good luck for the next quarter.

  13. Frank Cern says:

Thomas, thanks for the stats man. I didn’t realize Stumbleupon could provide that much traffic. I’m going to have to try it out for my blog. Regarding the bounce rate, you could try to integrate videos in your posts as a lot of people would stick around longer to watch a video rather than only read a post.

  14. Ravinder Mehta says:

    Hello Thomas,
Wow, how you are getting so much traffic through Search Engine? It looks like Google is helping you internally man (Kidding!). It’s an awesome report man. 17. Lee says:

The stats look really good. You mentioned your bounce rate at about 80% I have only been using analytics for a short time so still not 100% on all of it. My bounce rate is in the 80s and it is something I have started to work on. With my on site stuff to try and make my site come together better to hopefully get it down. Lets see what happens.

    Great stats thanks lee

  18. Madras Geek says:

Nice to hear WF brings in some traffic, good!

  19. pravin says:

The statistics look really excellent. You described your jump amount at about 80% I have only been using statistics for a few months so still not 100% on all of it. My jump amount is in the 80s and it is something I have began to perform on. With my on website things to try and create my website come together better to hopefully get it down. Allows see what happens.

  20. Elevator India says:

Hey Thomas you have gave me a good idea about the analytics so I must be thankful to you, thanks for the nice blog.

  22. Keral Patel says:

Very impressive stats and great traffic sources too. Major traffic coming from the search engines and your major traffic originating from the US is quite awesome.

  23. Bipul Khan says:

Really great search traffic. Keep it up. Thanks for sharing the stats report.

  24. The Bounce Rate is indeed an important aspect to take into account. I am also trying to enhance that by improving the performance and the design of the pages.
It is good that you make quarterly comparisons, this period of time is long enough to assess any evolution of your site.

  25. pravin says:

I wonder if inner connecting within of your websites to relevant other websites would help. Appears to be like a lot of perform but like with this publish, maybe publish to your old review in a more apparent style than the “here” opinion you had. For example, develop a desk and have each item of the desk from the last review connected to the last review.

  26. Mike says:

Don’t worry about these high bounce rates.
It’s ok for them to be in 80% area, especially given that you get most of your visits via Google.

People come to your blog, fulfill the purpose of their search query, and then leave.
