My Google Analytics Stats Report for Q4 2012

Google Analytics

It is time for my last Google Analytics report of 2012. As always I am going to share my traffic stats of the past quarter so you can see how I have been doing traffic-wise for the last 3 months. Overall my traffic has been pretty steady, but there has also been a bit ups and downs along the road.

oh-noMy Google PageRank has dropped

In my last Google Analytics report I was happy to inform you guys that my blog had went from a PR3 to a PR4 blog after the latest Google Page Rank Update. I guess it was a short success. After Google’s update back in November my blog went back to PR3 status. I guess that PR3 is still pretty good for a blog like this and I know that it does not matter that much anymore, but it is always more fun when it is the other way around.

My Google Analytics Stats for Q4 2012

Traffic Types:

  • Search Engines: 67.28%
  • Referring Sites: 18.26%
  • Direct Traffic: 14.40%
  • Other: 0.07%

Search Engines

When it comes to search engines Google still is the king of search. Yahoo is still in front of Bing even this is a Tech Blog and you should think that a lot of my visitors would use Microsoft Bing for searching. As long as Microsoft can’t even beat Yahoo, they are never going to be serious competition for Google when it comes to Search Engines.

  • Google: 94.08%
  • Yahoo: 2.87%
  • Bing: 1.45%

Top 5 Referring Sites:

Google URL Shortener is new as number 1. top referring source one my blog. In my last report from Q3 was number one, but it is not even in top 10 anymore.

  1. (Google URL Shortener)

Top 10 visitors by Country: Google Analytics Map Overlay

  1. United States
  2. Denmark
  3. United Kingdom
  4. India
  5. Australia
  6. Canada
  7. Sweden
  8. Finland
  9. Germany
  10. Netherlands

My visitors are still coming from the same countries. Only change is that Germany and the Netherlands switch spot.

Conclusion on my Traffic Report

Overall my traffic in Q4 of 2012 has been a bit less compared to Q3 of 2012. My blog dropped from PageRank 4 to PageRank 3 and even that I would love to win back my PR4 rank in the new year it does not seem to have much impact on my traffic at all. My organic traffic did drop about 16% compared to Q3, but my overall traffic only dropped about 9%. It might be a bit dangerous to put too much weight in to these numbers because December is a special month and people might be less online in the holidays, I know that I was. One of the reasons why my traffic has dropped over the last couple of months is for sure that I have been less active posting new posts and building back links to my blog. I hope that I will have more time for that in the new year of 2013.

    Hi Thomas,

I’m glad to see your traffic didn’t drop along with your page rank. Do you keep track of your Alexa Rank? I’m curious to know if it is improving or is it stable?

Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing that you are getting even more traffic in 2013!

    • Thomas says:

      Hi Ileane
My Alexa Rank has only dropped a bit just like my traffic. When my score was on the lowest it was about #79.000 and now it is about #90.000

Happy New Year to you too Ileane

      • My traffic and Alexa rank was down a bit too last year.

I did notice a drop in traffic for the past 6 months.. definitely thanks to Google’s unknown algorithm update, sigh

          Hi Michael
It seems like most bloggers lost traffic in 2012 due to Google’s algorithm updates. I just wonder who got more traffic after the updates? I don’t think that people have been searching less in the last 6 months of 2012.

    Hi Thomas,
Firstly, your site’s report drop but still awesome man. Good luck for new year.
I want to ask do you know when google will update PR for this year? I really expect to know my site PR.
    Thank you,

  5. Rahul says:

Good to see the traffic stats of your posts. Hope your traffic increases this year as I want to see more and more updates.

  6. Carolyn says:

Hi Thomas, Thanks so much for sharing this information. I always find it fascinating to see your stats.

Sorry about the Page Rank but it doesn’t sound as if it matters much if the traffic and income are there.

I have had a PR3 for a while even though I’ve had backlinks weekly from my column in The Philadelphia Inquirer. You would think that would improve my PR but no.

I wish you much continued success in 2013 and look forward to more amazing articles from Tech work DK!

    • Thomas says:

      Hi Carolyn
Thank you very much for all the kind word. It is not really a big issue with the PageRank, but always more fun with PR4 over PR3 right. Are your blog still a PR3 blog at the moment?

      • Carolyn says:

Yup, I’m still a 3. I don’t think it matters very much, but I’ve never been a 4 so I will take your word for it that 4 is more fun than 3! 😉

  7. anis chity says:

very nice stats it does’nt matter that your Pr has dropped your blog is coool

  8. zahid says:

Great post. But sad for PR dropped. Keep it up as it will go forward again on PR 4.

  9. Jeff says:

I wonder if this has something to do with the recent google updates. My stats also suddenly dropped in just one day starting last december 2012. I didn’t made any significant changes or any changes at all. But still my stats dropped. As a result, everything dropped. 🙁
I hope we can recover fast.

  10. Change in Google Penguin Update has made a lot of blogger lose organic traffic.

Google started thinking like a machine. Still preferred by each one for web search!

  11. Yahoo brings nearly 3% of traffic? I can’t believe that Yahoo brings more traffic to your website compared to Bing 🙂

    • Thomas says:

It is 3% of my search traffic, but yes it keeps on surprising me too. I have been active on Yahoo answers, but I don’t see how this can affect search traffic. I am just happy with all the traffic I can get 🙂

    Hi Thomas,

Thanks for sharing your stat reports. Its true that December accounts for less visibility online. All good wishes for new year.

  17. Scarllet says:

Hi, Thomas, i think the reason why trafic to your blog dropped is “December is a special month and people might be less online in the holidays”. Traffic to my blog did drop too.

  18. Nice site stats there Thomas, it’ll be interesting for me to see them as well and I like the traffic from warrior forum
