What is new in Internet Explorer 10

internet-explorer-10-for-windows-7Internet Explorer 10 has just recently been released for Windows 7. Even if you prefer another browser like Firefox or Google Chrome you might want to know what have changes in the new version of Internet Explorer 10. In my opinion Microsoft has been falling a lot behind in the browser war. One of the reasons is that there is years between the browser upgrades from Microsoft. That been said Microsoft Internet Explorer is still the most used browser worldwide and that is why you should not ignore this new version even that you don’t want to use it yourself. If you have your own blog or website you need to make sure that your site is looking good in IE10. If you don’t want to upgrade your own IE yet you can test your blog or website using this free browser tester.

Egypt government had an Internet kill switch

Egypt government had an Internet kill switch

How do you isolate an entire country from the rest of the Internet?

Well it sounds like an impossible thing to do, but not in Egypt.
Under the recent demonstration in Egypt the government successful turned off the Internet for a couple of day in an attempt to control the demonstration. The first rumors reported that government officials contacted individual ISPs and told them to shut down their networks, and If not they would lose their license for running communication company. New reports tells that most of the Internet providers in Egypt are connect to the rest of the world through a single datacenter (Internet Exchange Point), which made it possible for the Egypt intelligence service to force it offline very effectively. The remaining connection to the rest of the world was closed doing some phone calls/arm-twisting.

Help me I’m offline!

Oh no, I am offline…!

Just as Egypt came back online, I went offline. Well okay I am not totally offline, I still have my smartphone, but that is not really the same. My phone line is also down (Yep I still have one of those old faction baby’s), so I need to wait for a technician from the phone company to fix it. As an IT professional it is so frustrating to have an IT problem and not be able to do anything about myself. Well it is really bad timing, because I have the day off tomorrow and didn’t have to be going to bed early tonight. I have all night free to optimize my blog and then my Internet is offline 🙁

So what to do when the Internet is down and all I can do are just to wait? Well I thought, how about writing a blog post about it? So I did and the subject was kind of obvious:Are you addicted to being online and connected all the time?

Let my start with a couple of questions and then answer them myself. Then maybe you want to drop me a comment and answer the same questions yourself:

My questions:

  1. How often do you visit your own blog and check for new comments?
  2. How often do you check your traffic statistics?
  3. How often do you post a new blog post?
  4. How often do you write comments on others blog?
  5. Are you addicted to being online and always been connected?

My answers:

  1. Well I check my blog everyday if possible.
  2. I check it a couple times of days at the moment to see if my traffic is improving.
  3. I try to post a blog post at least once a week.
  4. I try to write a couple of comments on related blogs each day at the moment.
  5. Well I guess I am at some point. Hate not to be able to get online when I want to.

Well this was my answers, how about you?
